Any idea what the biggest Yanmar C-T is that you can fit into a half ton pickup? Is it practical to routinely drive around with them this way? Use 2x12" planks to load, or??
I have to buy both, need to get the ducks lined up right.

Reading your post I am assuming that you are wanting to put the tractor in the bed of the truck, not in a trailer. Most 1/2-tonners have a payload of around 1500lbs before you hit the GVWR. Many small tractors are at least this weight so you may be pushing it. But, assuming that you are not overloaded, it could work with several limitations. The width at the tires would of course have to be narrower than 48" to fit between the wheel wells. And, it would be impossible to haul a tractor with a mid mount mower attached as it would be too wide. Loading into a pickup by using ramps would be a little spooky so it would help to back into a ditch to get a closer to the ground and lessen the angle. Given all the limitations, I would sure recommend investing in a decent trailer. ....

A very small compact or sub-compact tractor will fit in a 1/2 ton pick-up, and some might even fit under the GVWR of the truck.
But...... only the tractor. Not the FEL, not a mower deck and certainly not with any sort of rear implement attached.
Even the smallest tractors with a FEL and a box scraper will span at least 12 feet in length and push 2100 pounds in weight.

Got it, I can may be able to do this to get the unit home, but that's it in practical terms. Implements on another trip, as well.

My advise after wrestling FELs and 400 pound implements for the last couple of years.....
Rent a proper size truck for a few hours. It is sooo much cheaper than the doctors visit and way, way cheaper than surgery. ....

A trailer would be cheaper to rent than a truck. Many folks have car haulers which work perfect for CUTs. Don't limit yourself to the size of the tractor by what fits in the bed of a truck. Limit your size by $$$ and uses for the tractor. Also, should there be an accident, insurance companies see it as a problem if you are past the GVW. (Wouldn't want a 1500 lb. tractor flying through my back window either) A trailer is the way to go. ....

I agree on the trailer logic.
Around here the rental yards will not rent you a 2 axle trailer unless you have a 3/4 ton or larger truck. I sort of jumped to the conclusion that it is the same everywhere. ....

Even if you can use the truck to haul the tractor--all things considered--BE SURE the ramps are secured to the truck. I didn't do this one time loading a 400lb. ATV. It started to stall as the front wheels got on the tailgate. Gave it some gas and it threw the ramps out from under me. Luckily I had just installed a skid plate under the ATV--it was the head of ONE 1/4" bolt that got caught on the edge of the tailgate that kept me and it from letting go---I looked like the space shuttle ready for takeoff. (kidding) Had to replace the ATV seat as there was a big chunk of it missing afterward! ....
